Summer Wonder Festival has just begun in Japan and X-Plus has an island booth set up just brimming with new stuff! NOTE: As of this writing, pre-orders have not yet opened for any of these newly revealed figures. Stay tuned for more info on when they ready to order.

GIGANTIC SERIES GODZILLA 1989

X-Plus has finally unveiled the Gigantic Series Godzilla 1989 vinyl statue based on the beast’s appearance in Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989). They first told us about plans for this release during our interview with Gee Okamoto almost 3 years ago. No word on its height yet, but it will probably be around 18 inches like other previous Gigantic releases. This figure has no release date set yet.

GIGANTIC SERIES MECHAGODZILLA 1974

This next one would have taken us totally by surprise were it not for Kyle Yount‘s (KaijuCast) video interview with X-Plus’ Gee Okamoto half a year ago.

This is the first figure in the Gigantic Series that isn’t a Godzilla or an Ultraman like the nine figures which precede it. There is no release date set for this one yet either. Stay tuned.

GIGANTIC SERIES ULTRAMAN JACK

Prototype of the Gigantic Series Ultraman Jack vinyl figure on display at Summer Wonder Festival.
PHOTO: X-PLUS

On display was an unpainted prototype for the third titan of light in the Gigantic Series: Ultraman Jack based on his appearance in the series Return of Ultraman (1971-1972). It will follow previous Gigantic releases of the original Ultraman and UltraSeven. Are you sensing a pattern?

This figure is expected to be released in December 2018. There is no word yet on whether or not this will be an international release and made available to U.S. and Canadian collectors on the new English X-Plus Site. If it will be, you’ll be able to order it direct from X-Plus and have it shipped to you from Japan.

LARGE MONSTER SERIES GAMERA 1999

Also on display for the first time was a prototype of the Large Monster Series Gamera 1999. An alternate, open mouth head sculpt was also on display. Since you can’t run wires though interchangeable pieces, it’s my guess that the RIC Exclusive version will give you the option to swop heads.

This is the third Heisei Gamera character to be released in the Large Monster Series (aka DaiKaiju Series / 25cm Series). It follows the Large Monster Series Legion and Gamera 1996. There are also a lot of Showa Gamera figures already released in this series.

Gamera 1999 is expected to ship in October 2018.

LARGE MONSTER SERIES MONSTER X

X-Plus revealed a very early sculpt for the upcoming Large Monster Series Monster X from Godzilla: Final Wars (2004). This figure would look great next to the previously released Large Monster Series Keizer Ghidorah or head-to-head with the also previously released Large Monster Series Godzilla 2004. It’s expected to release in October 2018. They better get moving on that one then. It’s only 3 months away!

SOFT SERIES “ALL AROUND” HEDORAH

Soft Series All Around Hedorah by X-Plus.

WOW! This one was a total surprise. Machine Translations come out as “All Around”. I have no idea what that means, but this is clearly a Landing Stage Hedorah. It’s based on Hedorah’s appearance when it first came on land. Featured on all fours, it mimics scenes when Hedorah was playing havoc on the road with the cars and also when it was cautiously standing off on his first encounter with Godzilla.

This is an entry into the Soft Series which is fairly new. It scales with the Large Monster Series (25cm) and follows the Soft Series Landing Stage Hedorah (standing version) and a few Ultra kaiju releases. These figures are actually soft and can be squeezed.

Hedorah was on display with a simplified, mini building with two smoke stacks which doesn’t quite match the movie in either detail or scale. This would still make a nice extra touch for the display on your shelves. I would assume that this building is a RIC Exclusive extra but that isn’t confirmed yet.

The Soft Series Hedorah is expected to arrive in October 2018. October is working up to be a busy month!

LARGE MONSTER SERIES ULTRAMAN ACE

The Large Monster Series Ultraman Ace, based on the original 1972-1973 series seems to be a reissue but with modifications made to the arms and hands. This one is also due out in October 2018.

EVEN MORE ULTRAS AND DEFOREAL FIGURES

There were several more figures on display but from series which I don’t follow and can’t reliably report on. Please see the Photo Gallery at the end of this post for photos.

30CM SERIES YUJI SAKAI SHIN GODZILLA

X-Plus 30cm Yuji Sakai Shin Godzilla RIC and Standard.

What looked like production models of the RIC Exclusive and Standard version Toho 30cm Series Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla 2016 were also on display. It’s unclear on what the deal is, but it looks as if the RIC version is showing a bit more red than we were expecting which is drumming up some controversy among collectors. Have a look for yourself. More photos are in the gallery below.

This figure is going to be released any time now.
