X-Plus of the Day 11/8/19 – X-Plus Large Monster Series King Ghidorah 2001

The X-Plus Large Monster Series King Ghidorah 2001 vinyl figure on my desk.

Hogging my printer on my desk all day today is the Large Monster Series Favorite Sculptors Line King Ghidorah (2001) by X-Plus.

It’s the spitting image of GMK KG. I still find it hard to believe that we finally have a complete roster for GMK.

This figure is shorter than other Ghidorahs in the 25cm Series, as it should be. Yet it’s slightly big for this line. It scales with the other GMK figures so that’s all that matters.

Unlike the other Ghidorahs, this figure comes with the wings already attached. Also unlike the others, you need to put the tail on this one. But it comes with a magnet and pops right on. …and pops right off if you’re not careful. I’d rather have the tail all one piece with the body.

I’m not going to ask you how you like this sculpt because if you don’t, you a crackhead.

What do you think about the tail connection though? Nice? Naughty?

When you have well over 100 X-Plus figures, each one tends to blur out of focus in lieu of the collection as a whole. ‘X-Plus of the Day’ is when I select one of them and keep them on my desk for the day in an attempt to enjoy and appreciate it away from the busy shelves.

X-Plus of the Day 11/7/19 – X-Plus Soft Series Crawling Hedorah

X-Plus Soft Series Hedorah All-Fours Version vinyl figure.

Sliming up my desk all day today is the Soft Series Hedorah (All Fours Version) ヘドラ 上陸期 四つん這いVer. vinyl figure by X-Plus.

This figure comes from the newer Soft Series. It’s actually soft and squeezable yet remains sturdy and has a bit of heft to it.

It’s scaled with the Daikaiju Series (aka Large Monster Series, aka 25cm Series). And it’s particularly interesting because it’s one of the few Toho kaiju which X-Plus has done more than once in this scale. (They also made a standing posed version of this Landing Stage smoggie.

It was released just a little over a year ago. And I realized that I’ve hardly looked at it during that time. Which is absurd because this thing is freaking cool!

It’s also great to have another crawler in the 25cm Series. Smoggie here joins Anguirus 55, Varan, Anguirus 68, Ebirah, Manda, Baragon 65, Kumonga and others.

Today I have 2 questions.

Which do you prefer? The Standing Landing Stage Hedorah ready to suck smog out of the smoke stacks or this new crawling version?

Also, do you have any Soft Series figures? What do you think of them? Ya dig the squooshiness or prefer regular vinyl?

X-Plus of the Day 11/1/19 – Large Monster Series Gargantuas

X-Plus Large Monster Series Gargantuas vinyl figure set.

Hanging out on my desk today is the Large Monster Series Sanda vs. Gaira set by X-Plus.

This is the first 25cm set to come out. The seams are kind of heavy since you can remove both arms and replace with them with alternate sets for different poses. I’ve never gotten around to trying that out though.

These guys look great just they way they are.

X-Plus of the Day 10/31/19 – Large Monster Series Space Godzilla

X-Plus Large Monster Series Space Godzilla and Little Godzilla vinyl figure set.

Hanging out on my desk today is the Large Monster Series Space Godzilla Ric with Little Godzilla by X-Plus.

So much good to say about SG but at the same time, he’s a bit stylized. Little Godzilla looks perfect to me.

I hardly ever see these guys because they’re on a low shelf so out they come.

The fandom is divided on this figure. What do you think about it?

X-Plus of the Day 10/29/19 – Large Monster Series Mothra 2001

X-Plus Large Monster Series Mothra 2001 vinyl figure on my desk.

Hanging out on my desk all day today is the Large Monster Series Favorite Sculptors Line Mothra 2001. Yes, she came in a set with Baragon 2001.

I wanted to focus just on her today though. The fact that she came in a set may be part of the reason why I never look at her much on the shelves.

Another reason may be because she’s so small. We’ve been spoiled by the hugeness of the Mothra Imago 1961 and 1964. But, this size is accurate for GMK.

It’s been on my desk for only a few minutes and I’m already starting to notice new things about it. Despite its small size, it’s a FANTASTIC vinyl.

X-Plus of the Day 10/26/19 – Large Monster Series Gabara

X-Plus Large Monster Series Gabara vinyl figure on my desk.

Today’s desk buddy is the X-Plus Large Monster Series Gabara from All Monsters Attack (1969).

If I ever needed to spend a little one-on-one time with a figure, it’s definitely this one. I hardly ever look at it. And I’m not a huge fan of the kaiju.

Still, he’s an important part of All Monsters Attack so I’m trying to warm up to it.

I’ve sold off a few figures lately. This guy was on my To Go List. Had plans to sell even more but I’m not quite sure I want to do that.

Hence the one on one figure of the day approach. He’s on my desk all day today and hopefully I’ll learn to appreciate it more. It’s already starting to work.

Rich Eso reviews the Toho Large Monster Series Godzilla 1964-B RIC Exclusive Version vinyl figure by X-Plus. This figure is significant because it’s the only Godzilla X-Plus has ever done based on the suit from Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster (1964). Yup, we got two Godzilla movies that year!
