The preorder window for the Favorite Sculptors Line Toho Large Monster Series Godzilla 2001 vinyl figure by X-Plus is finally open.
This vinyl is from a previous Monster Maker 28 (MM-28) kit and has been slightly modified by the original sculptor, Shunsuke Niwa for the X-Plus vinyl version. It comes from the same series that brought us the recent Large Monster Series King Ghidorah 2001 and the Mothra 2001 & Baragon 2001 set.
X-Plus reports that this figure is 28cm tall (about 11 inches). That’s practically the same height as the Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla 2001. If you already have the Sakai, you may want to pair it with the rest of your GMK vinyls and skip this new release. But keep in mind this new figure was made to stand with the others in the set.
A RIC Exclusive version will feature light-up fins and cost ¥17,820 (currently $164). Reservations started today, February 9, and will end on February 26 at 6pm (Japan time).
Standard versions (without the light gimmick) are available to order from:
• Hobby Search – ¥13,950 ($128.52)
• AmiAmi.com – ¥13,980 ($129.59).
• Hobby Link Japan – ¥15,500 ($150.61).
Expected release is April 2018.
I originally talked about this new GMK, as well as it’s place with the other GMK figures in this December episode of Kaiju Addicts TV.
The Toho Large Monster Series Shin Godzilla (Fourth Form) is an amazing vinyl replica of the newest Godzilla from the silver screen. It has an incredible movie-accurate sculpt and has a ton of presence despite being from X-Plus’ smaller line. The red fission glows are reproduced ingeniously and it just looks fantastic.
The figure suffers from having more seams than most other figures, and the RIC can have a noticeable gap in the tail joint. Despite this, it’s one hell of a figure.
At over 22 inches long, it’s has descent shelf “presence” and is an exciting new addition to the X-Plus line and it’s ready to get your collection up-to-date with the latest craze from Japan, Shin Godzilla.
This is the latest Ultra kaiju to join my collection: the Large Monster Series Pestar by X-Plus. I’ve been wanting one for years now. Don’t know why I didn’t pull the trigger until now.
The details on this are insane! And it’s a dead ringer for the monster in the original Ultraman series (1966-1967). Every time I look at it I’m flung back to Tilton Street where I lived as a kid; where I watched Ultraman reruns on TV every day.
I freaking love these things. Thanks to X-Plus, I finally have the monsters I’ve always wanted. But, hey, we need more Ultraman ’66 monsters, X-Plus! Okay?

Matt Jacobson, a.k.a. Gojira851 reviews the Toho Large Monster Series Shin Godzilla (Standard Version) vinyl figure by X-Plus.
What I really like about this video is that, not having the figure myself (yet), it provides a good sense of the size and length of it. And this video is the first place I’ve gotten that from.

William Schmeiske, on his Youtube channel Godzilla 65, reviews the Toho Large Monster Series ‘Son of Godzilla’ Commemorative Set by X-Plus. This set was released at Wonder Festival 2016 (Summer) in Japan and includes reissues of the Toho Large Monster Series Godzilla 1967 and Minya.
Also included is a slightly reworked reissue of the Toho Large Monster Series Kumonga. The original release had purple eyes to match the eyes as they appeared throughout most of the movie. There were times, though, where Kumonga’s eyes had gone red as they are in this set.
William also places this set beside the Large Monster Series Kamacuras released last year. Together, all four figures complete X-Plus’ Son of Godzilla, 怪獣島の決戦 ゴジラの息子 (1967) kaiju line-up.
