The new announcements for North American releases from X-Plus and Diamond just keep coming. X-Plus' Toho 30cm Series Mechagodzilla II (1993) was only just announced for a Japanese release not that long ago and is due out any time now. And, before we can even get our hands on the first release, pre-orders have opened for a North American (Diamond) Reissue. Keep in mind this will be the Standard only. The Super Mechagodzilla configuration with Garuda will not be offered. (Although, X-Plus did give us a Gigan 2004 reissue and then later another Gigan 2004 reissue with all of the RIC parts, so who knows? Maybe they'll double dip again.) This reissue is called the Godzilla Kaiju 12in Series Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla II '93 Version. Diamond's SRP is $180. As usual, you'll be able to order one for less at your favorite online toy store or local comic shop. Preorders are open at Flossie's for $149. The "safe" deadline for dealers is August 4, 2017. If you and your store get them ordered before then, you'll be guaranteed to get one. If your store orders extra figures before that date, you'll be able to pre-order them after the deadline. The current expected ship date for this figure is January 3, 2018. (Date may change.) MECHAGODZILLA GODZILLA: TM & © TOHO CO.,LTD. ALL PHOTOS: X-PLUS As previously reported, X-Plus is set to release the new Toho 30cm Series Mechagodzilla (1993 Version) and the Toho 30cm Series Super Mechagodzilla vinyl figures. Often called "Mechagodzilla II", this kaiju-sized mecha appeared in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993). The standard version of this figure, available from Japanese stores other than X-Plus, will feature a FANTASTIC vinyl rendering of Mechagodzilla II. What sets this figure apart from the RIC Boy exclusive version -- apart from price -- is the absence of the Garuda aircraft docked to its back. Also, the belly does NOT include an open Plasma Grenade emitter. Usually, robotic figures feature some minor articulation. I do not know specifically that that will be the case here, but a translation of X-Plus' seems that it is indicating that there were previously problems with neck and shoulder articulation and that that has been corrected for this release. Don't hold me to that, though. But while X-Plus has granted us plenty of time to order the RIC version (May 16), there's no way of knowing when the Japanese stores will cap orders for this Standard Version. So, don't delay and place your order soon. WHERE TO BUY - Click links below • Hobby Search - ¥18,000 / $162 USD. • AmiAmi - ¥18,360 / $165 USD. • Hobby Link Japan - ¥19,000 / $170. ALL PHOTOS: X-PLUS Last week, at the Spring Miyazawa Model Exhibition in Japan, X-Plus displayed a painted prototype of their upcoming Toho 30cm Series Mechagodzilla II based on the giant mech from 1993's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. It looks like this figure is FINALLY getting ready to go up for pre-order! And it's been quite a wait. We first learned of this figure in late 2015 when we interviewed Gee Okamoto of X-Plus who revealed plans to begin work on it in 2016. X-Plus revealed the unpainted sculpt a while ago but we've seen nothing of it since then. Until now! The Standard Version will not come with Garuda attached to its back. Also note that the Plasma Grenade is in the CLOSED position, hidden behind a metal shield on its belly. For extra power, you'll need the RIC version which was just revealed today! (See below). Super Mechagodzilla Today, at Super Festival 74 in Japan, X-Plus brought Mechagodzilla II again. But this time they displayed the RIC exclusive. This version will feature an in-scale Garuda attached to its back forming Super Mechagodzilla. Garuda looks amazing. It's a shame all this detail will be facing the wall behind your shelf. UPDATE: I was told by X-Plus that Garuda is "fixed" onto Mechagodzilla and will not be removable and that Garuda's guns are also "fixed" and can not be rotated upward. If you want Mechagodzilla in his pure form, you'll need to grab a Standard version. Unlike the Standard version, Mechagodzilla's Plasma Grenade emitter is sculpted on his belly in the open position. That, in combination with Garuda's massive maser cannons and a mouth ray ready to fire, this Mechagodzilla II is ready for anything in [...]
