X-Plus continues its Legendary lineup with Pacific Rim Knifehead

PACIFIC RIM, KNIFEHEAD © LEGENDARY ENTERTAINMENT. PHOTO: X-PLUS Today, X-Plus announced the Large Monster Series Pacific Rim Knifehead (大怪獣シリーズ パシフィック・リム 「ナイフヘッド」) vinyl figure. It comes in both Standard and Ric Boy Exclusive versions. The figure looks like another outstanding high-end vinyl with fantastic attention to detail, especially in its musculature and many skin textures. At first glance, though, something seems to be off. It could be that I'm simply too accustomed to seeing only the NECA versions (which seem to clash on a couple of details with this figure). Well, I'll reserve judgement on that until it arrives (because, oh, hell yeah, I'm getting it.) 【動画投稿】ご予約受付中のナイフヘッドを、回転台に乗せてくるっと回してみたシンプルな動画です。#パシフィックリム pic.twitter.com/FjrfIzVgWF— 少年リック (@shounen_ric_xp) October 31, 2016 Above is a recent Twitter video from X-Plus. You'll note the clearly visible seams. Note that this is just the prototype. The finished product will look a lot better. The X-Plus Ric Boy site reports that the figure stands about 30cm (11.8 inches) tall. One wonders why it's not in the 30cm Series, but instead the Large Monster Series, where a typical figure stands only 25cm. I won't guess right now and, instead, save that for the future review. The new Knifehead figure will be considerably larger than the Large Monster Series Pacific Rim Leatherback which was released last August. But don't worry. It's supposed to be that way. According to Pacific Rim Wiki, Leatherback, a Category IV kaiju is 267 feet tall. Knifehead, a Category III, stands taller at 315 feet. So though it may be hard to see in the movie, these guys just are not the same size. Artist Jaroslav Kosmina back this up in his now famouse Kaiju Size Chart: Knifehead Ric Boy Exclusive Version PACIFIC RIM, KNIFEHEAD © LEGENDARY [...]

Shin Godzilla Headlines X-Plus October Announcements

Shin Godzilla, Gyaos, Ultraman and Pacific Rim's Knifehead newest vinyl kaiju up for pre-order from X-Plus LARGE MONSTER SERIES SHIN GODZILLA STANDARD VERSION. TM & © TOHO CO.,LTD. PHOTO: X-PLUS Today, X-Plus announced the Toho Large Monster Series "Shin Godzilla" vinyl figure. It will come in both Standard and Ric Boy Exclusive versions. This new figure is based on the newest entry in the franchise, Shin Godzilla (シン・ゴジラ), or as it's often called by its early, aborted name, Godzilla Resurgence. The news comes well after other brands like Bandai and Banpresto have already delivered. Let's hope that this is a case of saving the best for last! SIZE The upcoming Shin Godzilla vinyl will reportedly by 25cm (9.8 inches) tall from head to toe and 50cm (19.6 inches) from nose to tail. Although it's technically the right height for a Large Monster Series figure, that bigass tail will give it more "presence". As usual, the tail will come detached but is easily connected to the figure. According to the X-Plus site, the tail will be in one piece. But Gee Okamoto of X-Plus says it actually may be necessary for the tail to come in multiple pieces. Toho Large Monster Series Shin Godzilla 東宝大怪獣シリーズ 「シン・ゴジラ」 LARGE MONSTER SERIES SHIN GODZILLA STANDARD VERSION. TM & © TOHO CO.,LTD. PHOTO: X-PLUS The Standard Version will come with red paint details to replicate the fission glow from the movie. PRE-ORDER You can pre-order the Standard Version from the usual online Japanese retailers. Hobby Search has it for ¥17,982 (about $173 USD). Hobby Link Japan for ¥17,575 (about $169 USD). ...did you catch that? Hobby Link is actually the cheaper route for a change! As of this writing, it [...]

X-Plus Tweets Leatherback under Black Light

Yesterday, X-Plus tweeted a photo of the upcoming Large Monster Series Pacific Rim Leatherback under a black light with exciting results. Seen above is the Standard version of the figure glowing as the monster did in the movie. And the Ric Boy version looks even more brilliant... Before you get excited, these photos most likely look more brilliant than they would in person. Taking photographs in low light requires longer shutter speeds and it's difficult to capture what the eye sees. This is good news for the toy photographer as you should be able to reproduce these results. That's assuming, of course, that X-Plus shot the same figures we're all about to get and didn't use special paint just for these photos. Leatherback is available to pre-order Now! If you want the Ric Boy version you better act now. Pre-orders close on May 24. And don't forget that Japan is in our future, so make your deadline May 23. The Ric comes with a wider mouth, erect head tendrils, extended gill plates on the back and more greenish paint highlights all around. You can order it here. • Original X-Plus Ric Boy Leatherback Page. • High Resolution Leatherback Photos at SciFi Japan. • Original Kaiju Addicts Post about Leatherback. • Get the Standard Leatherback at AmiAmi - $127. • Get the Standard Leatherback at Hobby Search - $129. • Get the Standard Leatherback at Hobby Link Japan - $135. • Follow X-Plus on Twitter here.

Pre-orders Open for Jet Jaguar Re-issue and Pacific Rim’s Leatherback

Large Monster Series Jet Jaguar Re-issue Ric Boy Exclusive 東宝大怪獣シリーズ ジェットジャガー (発光Ver.) 少年リック限定商品 Ready for a big scoop of Hallelujah dipped in awesome sauce? X-Plus just announced a re-issue of the elusive and much sought-after Jet Jaguar! Jet was originally released in late 2010. It was re-issued as part of a super-limited set with Godzilla 1973 for Winter Wonder Festival in 2012. This makes this new release his THIRD appearance. Who could see that coming? Don't you just love surprises? It looks like this 23cm vinyl figure will be released as a Ric Boy only. Other recent Large Monster Series re-issues got the same treatment. If you want this one, you're going to have to get it from X-Plus' Ric Boy site, or call on Mike Johnson or Jamie Davies for some assist. Jet Jaguar is going to not only grace us again with his presence, but will do so with light gimmick eyes. I expect the power source will be built into the base and insert into the bottom of one foot just like all of the Large Monster Series Ultraman figures. Also new to this release: JJ will come with one closed fist and one open hand so he'll be ready to Punch! Punch! ...Slap! The X-Plus Large Monster Series Jet Jaguar will run you ¥12,960 ($119 USD). $120 bucks for Jet? Someone pinch me! Pre-orders end May 24. The figure is expected to ship late June/early July. So... First a Megalon re-issue and then this. Could Godzilla 1973 be next? X-Plus Legion to Attack This Summer

It's been exactly twenty years since Legion first attacked movie theaters in 1996's Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (ガメラ2 レギオン襲来). And X-Plus is right on cue with plans to bring this insectoid kaiju to vinyl on the film's 20th anniversary. X-Plus
