Back from a long hiatus, X-Plus finally announced a slew of new figures on the Ric Boy site last night. They also introduced a newer, slower release schedule and teased the next entry in the new Gigantic Series!

X-Plus April Announcements.

It seems X-Plus has adopted a new release schedule. Many of the recently announced figures may not actually reach your shelves until as late as AUGUST! In the past, X-Plus would make announcements for new figures near the changing of the month. The pre-order window typically would close about three weeks later and you would finally get your new figure delivered a month after that. Enter the new schedule: Many of the new figures have release dates which may fall on early June to late August.

Late August?

Instead of waiting two months we now have to wait two to FIVE months? What’s going on? Are these release dates just typos? Are the extra production demands to fill Diamond North American releases clogging the works? Or — and this is my favorite — maybe they spent so much money on a Godzilla 2014 license that they have to cut corners?

I don’t know the answer right now. But in the meantime: let’s move on to some GOOD NEWS…

X-Plus Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla 1995 Vinyl Figure.

Probably the biggest news (pun intended) is the “Coming Soon” tease for the second entry in the X-Plus Gigantic Series. Just as Kyle Yount (KaijuCast) first reported, the next big guy will be a gigantic DesuGoji from 1995’s Godzilla vs. Destroyah (ゴジラVSデストロイア).

CLICK HERE FOR MORE GIGANTIC GODZILLA 1995 PHOTOS. just posted photos of the X-Plus Gigantic Series Godzilla 1995 vinyl figure and is currently taking preorders. They’re asking ¥34,600 for it. That’s about $335. AmiAmi says the release date is late June.

X-Plus Gigantic Series Burning Godzilla 1995 Vinyl Figure.

Just LOOK at how it towers over the first Gigantic Series figure! For those of you new to X-Plus, the new Gigantic Series began late last year with the stylized Godzilla 2001. See my X-Plus Gigantic Series Godzilla 2001 Review to see how mindboggingly awesome that figure turned out to be! Hopefully we can expect the same from the upcoming DesuGoji.

Keep watching Kaiju Addicts for more news on this guy.

X-Plus 25cm Gamera 1996 early production photos.

Introducing the Large Monster Series Gamera 1996 as he appeared in Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, ガメラ2 レギオン襲来 (1996). This is quite a surprise since X-Plus had been releasing only Showa Gamera figures in the 25cm Large Monster Series and saving the Heisei figures for the taller 30cm Series. No longer! This is great news! Hopefully we’ll get to see some painted versions soon.

The exclusive Ric Boy version of this figure will come with a light gimmick which will make his chest glow. I can’t wait to see how that’s going to work. It’s my guess that it will come with an alternate piece recreating the scene where his chest plates opened up to unleash a firey can of whoopass.

Also, might this mean there may be an X-Plus Legion in our future? Unlike the 30cm Series, X-Plus has put out figures of nearly all of Showa Gamera’s foes. Let’s hope the pattern continues and we get a Heisei Gyaos, Legion and Iris.

Pre-orders for the Large Monster Series Gamera 1996 Ric Boy version end April 21, 2014. If the standard version will do, keep checking Hobby Search, it should be showing up soon. Either way, the Ric Boy site reports this figure won’t be out until “early June to late August 2014”.

X-Plus Real Master Collection Godzilla 1989 Resin Figure.

Originally released in 2012 in vinyl, Godzilla 1989 will return in polyresin as part of the Real Master Collection. I believe the run will be limited to 50 figures and will only be available from the Ric Boy webstore for ¥30,780 (currently about $298).

Don’t like resin? This figure may be re-issued in vinyl again for the North American market through Diamond Distributors. Watch my Diamond Re-Issue Schedule page for updates on that.

X-Plus Gigantic Series Dodongo.

Announced previously, the upcoming Giant Series Dodongo (Ultraman, 1966) now has images of the painted figure.

Also announced were Ultraman 80, a resin Ultraman Ace, and a slew of Ultra Kaiju I honestly don’t recognize. Check out the X-Plus Ric Boy site for more information.
