Toho Large Monster Series Godzilla 1965 vinyl figure by X-Plus.

X-Plus has just announced the Toho Large Monster Series Godzilla 1965 / 東宝大怪獣シリーズ ゴジラ(1965). This high quality, movie accurate vinyl is based on Godzilla’s appearance in the movie Invasion of Astro-Monster (怪獣大戦争) featuring King Ghidorah’s second appearance, Rodan’s third and the mysterious Planet X and the Xilians.

This and the upcoming Large Monster Series Godzilla 1954 are the first Large Monster Series (aka 25cm Series, Daikaiju Series) Showa Godzillas released since 2013’s Godzilla 1975… FIVE years ago!

The figure will be about 24cm (9.4 inches) tall and will be available as both a Standard and RIC Exclusive version.

The RIC will run you ¥15,660 (about $141 USD) and will come with a mini Xilian figure which will stand 9cm tall.

It’s available to preorder from the Shonen Ric as X-Plus website IF you have an account. If you don’t, it’s kind of tricky getting one since the site is in Japanese and because you’ll need a forwarding service like since they won’t ship outside of Japan. If you need an alternative, see Rich Eso‘s How To Order from Mike Johnson article.

Standard versions won’t come with the mini Xilian, but they will save you some bucks. You’ll be able to order them from our favorite Japanese retailers: Hobby Search, AmiAmi and Hobby Link Japan.

Preorders opened September 7 and will end on October 2, 2018. It is expected to ship in November 2018.

Not much to say other than the obvious praise for a brand new X-Plus Godzilla sculpt. As I’ve already said, it’s been a long time since we’ve gotten a new Godzilla in the “25cm Series”. I haven’t done a comparison between the production photos and photos of the actual suit, but I think it’s just fine. I really like the pose, too. It’s different from other poses in the line and it will shake up the shelf.

This release also opens the door to possibilities of reliving Invasion of Astro Monster on the shelf. The previously released Large Monster Series Rodan 1964 could make for an okay stand-in for a Rodan 1965 if you don’t mind the differences in the suit. The Rodan 1964 would also make for a good companion for the Godzilla 1965 if, like me, you display your figures on the shelf in movie order.

If you missed the original release, you can preorder a Large Monster Series Rodan 1964 “Diamond Reissue” from me at Flossie’s. They are expected to ship at the end of this month!

And, I would like to point out that the upcoming release of this Godzilla 1965 just may indicate X-Plus’ intention to finally release a Large Monster Series King Ghidorah 1964 to go with it. A 25cm King Ghidorah ’64 was originally going to be X-Plus’ first Ghidorah, but the 1968 version later took precedence because of the then looming Destroy All Monsters anniversary. We’ll have to wait and see.

I love the look of this ’65 and can’t wait to get one on my shelf. This Godzilla comes from a range of suits that comprise THE Godzilla look I remember so clearly from childhood. This, to me, is “Godzilla”.
